About

Tueai La is a Richmond Hill-based artist. She was born in 1963 in Hue, Vietnam, and immigrated to Canada with her family as refugees during the seventies. She later received her BA in Visual Arts from York University (Toronto) in 1987.

Tueai was attracted to drawing and painting from an early age. For over 40 years, she was painting whenever she could while raising a family and working as a graphic designer. Now that she is retired, she is finally able to paint full-time.

Having witnessed the deep pain and sorrow of war, Tueai has been searching for a universal understanding of self. A recurrent theme in her work is capturing the vibrant and healing energy of life through the depiction of sunlight on flowers and leaves. She loves painting flowers because, for her, flowers embody the divine energy and symbolize the beauty and fragility of life. While painting she feels a connection to the earth and life's essence. By juxtaposing warm and cool colours and values, she creates a vibrant field of colours that mirror the energy that radiates through all living things. Her creative process is guided by intuition while striving to recreate beauty that touches her heart.

Through her work, the viewer is encouraged to explore their own connection to life and the sacred natural world. Her work has been included in numerous juried and group exhibitions throughout Ontario.
